Aiea Sugar Mill Site-zoned industrial with 14 lots.
Plans for a road through the site will be formulated after the majority of lots are sold.
Setbacks are needed. There is still no funding to purchase the site or to move
the library to the site or to plan a community town center with a museum,
gardens, art & cultural exchange and a multigenerational/youth center. We havenb community wants for the mill site.
Input is needed or we may regret what does get developed there. Questions concerning the cost, status of lots for sale were
asked. It is estimated that the site would cost about $8-10 million and there is currently 4 lots in
escrow. The Neighborhood Board(NB) favors the library moving to the site.
Discussion also took place concerning moving the High School or creating a district park there. b. Pearl Harbor Historic Trail- currently not very
much access to the water. Aiea/PC vision team would like to develop the
historical OR&L former rail lines and preserve the history of the area.
Open up access to tourist and residents alike.
Perhaps create educational kiosk along the trail c. Aiea Gateway Park- Vision project which would
mark entrance into community with lighted signage. d. Livable Community Plan- Federal grant through the
City & County of Honolulu. Focus
would be on traffic and to increase community businesses. Wilson Okamoto is the VDAT team. Community meeting
to take place in the near future. Notification
at next ACA meeting. e. Pab Kimberly Mills elected project manager.
Fishpond committee volunteers are Norman Sakamoto, Mac MacClearen, Robyn Blanpied
& Claire Tamamoto. f. Hob explained the meaning of Hob program to pull parents and the community together.
At 11 and 12 years old, children are deciding what path they will take.
Adults are needed for guidance and to learn social skills.
The intermediate school students have shown maturity by helping out with the head start
program. The students have demonstrated
nurturing abilities to the 3-4 year old head start children. Aiea
Elementary almost lost the program so it was brought to Aiea Intermediate. DeLude
sees after school programs and intramurals in our area as a way to combat deviant behavior, but the problem
is transportation to get and keep these children in programs.
Another idea is to open up schools on Saturdays and also get students involved with
community activities. Mr. DeLude also gave an informative historical account
of the Pab and Pearl Harbor as a breadbasket for the King of
Maui. VI. Membership Drive-ACA has 100 members VII. Newsletter-Available to anyone, contact ACA for
copies. VIII. Open Forum-The demise of the former ACA was
brought up. There is a fine line not to turn the community against itself
and ACA needs to be aware of that. Discussion
on how to get people to participate took place. Suggestions were have a social/
entertainment/information value gathering. Canvassing. Work
with special interest groups and senior activities groups. Point out how planning is done for communities
rather then with communities and also how people are getting suckered in to
things. IX. Announcements were made and meeting ended at
