AIEA COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (ACA) NOVEMBER 27, 2000 ALVAH SCOTT ELEM. Present: Denise Haverty, Wade Kagawa, Scott Kamiya, Gary Kaplan, Kimberly Mills, Jim Naylon, Gary Okino, Blake Oshiro, Claire Tamamoto Minutes of ACA meeting of October 30, 2000 were reviewed. Gary Kaplan and Jane Sugimura were added to those present. Minutes were accepted as corrected. Treasurer Reports that there is $1750.80 in the ACA account. Aiea Neighborhood Board (ANB) Reports that neighbors are encouraged to run for the Neighborhood Board. The deadline is in January. Vision projects were accepted. The Aiea Recreation Park will be posting a "Park Closed" sign. Signs need to be posted at all district parks. The annual Christmas party is at Halawa Gym on December 17 at 6 p.m. Property crimes are up in our area. Aiea Town Center’s setback is not being observed. ACA members Bonnie Arakawa and Claire Tamamoto testified at Council Hearings and a setback of 7 feet was agreed upon. Fencing around the property is on the property line. Inspectors put a red flag on the wrong parcel. It is possible that the consultant knew of a setback but the owner said it was okay to build a fence. A zoning document from the City & County stating the seven-foot setback will be submitted. The soil is contaminated at the Town Center site. It is tolerable for an industrial site but not a park. There is a meeting with Virginia Lowell at 9:30am on December 7, 2000 to discuss the Aiea Library. Pearl Harbor Historic Trail Master Draft Plan workshop will be at Pearlridge Elementary on November 29, 2000. Helen Felsing who is in charge of the State Dedication of rivers and trails will be there. Aiea Intergenerational Center’s computer class teacher will be resigning at the end of December. There is a meeting on November 28, 2000 at 9a.m. with AIS Principal. It has been reported that some Aiea High School (AHS) ninth graders are reading at third grade levels. Youth Reading programs will be AHS’s focus. Empower Oahu has $90,000 available to create business opportunities for the community. Program must create sustainable employment for low to moderate-income persons. Daycare for seniors or/and children are a possibility. There will be a meeting before the ACA’s December meeting. MISC.~ The Kam Drive Inn site as a transit center has been eliminated. Transit site relocated next to Home World. Although BART has been approved for the Primary Transportation Corridor Plan, it still has it’s problems since there will be no dedicated lanes for the system and mingling with regular traffic will still put the transit mode into congestion. All park projects need to be done through Design & Construction. Bill Balfour will be seeking $40 million to fix parks on Oahu. The AHS Turkey Trot did not have that much participation. Donations are used for clubs and PTA. As a community we need to support each other so possibly ACA needs to help them next year with publicizing to increase participation. Bonnie is still patiently waiting for newsletter articles. Holiday Trolley possibly on a Saturday. The cost is $400 for five hours. Free to residents for holiday shopping. Meeting ended at 8:45 p.m. |
