consistent format of minutes is needed for the web page. Bonnie
Arakawa is still patiently waiting for articles for the ACA newsletter.
Vision TeamProject prioritization for the 2001 year will take place on August 7, 2000 at 7pm at Waiau District Park. Project sheets will be put together to be submitted to DCCA. Everyone is encouraged to come and participate. Concerns The Office of Information practices will be examining the sunshine law. There are concerns about the open process of meetings and the requirements for Neighborhood Board meetings versus Vision meetings. Questions such as what constitutes notice, getting on agendas and why only two NB members are allowed on a Vision team were raised. Aiea Mill Site We are still seeking a buyer to purchase the 5-acre lot. Hopefully the purchaser of the lot will not conflict with the Community Center. Road construction will be completed in August. A Hawaiian street name is needed for the new road. The ACA will suggest Aieahulu, which means precious Aiea. Ho’olana ‘O Aiea (Intergenerational Center) The coordinator of the center is Eleary Han. The center is EZ funded with an economic development grant. The purpose of the center is to improve employment skills of the population residing within census tract 75.04, Aloha Stadium. There are some concerns that need to be worked out with the Aiea School Principal such as DOE regulations and use of school facilities. Other concerns such as would the center be competing unfairly with other commercial businesses and liability issues need to be worked out. Because ACA received funds, do we need a business license or does the project need a business license? How are other EZ sponsored groups handling these questions? Do we need a transactional lawyer? A change in party President may change the parameters of the EZ grant. Empowerment Claire Tamamoto and Scott Kamiya are our representatives. Community Work Day July 27, 2000 has been scheduled as our community work day from 9-12Noon at Rainbow Bay Park. Plants that were planted may have been torn up and crushed. We need to work with parks (Ralston Nagato) to make sure our beautification efforts are not wasted. Pearl Harbor Historic Trail The State project of the bike path spur to Leeward Community College (LCC) has both student and faculty support. There is a security concern though. New Business Jim Naylon discussed a study to examine the makai road fronting Aiea Elementary School that comes off of Moanalua Freeway. He asked for ACA’s support for the study. Aiea NB supports the study. Concerns such as community input needed, how Gateway project may be affected and how the study could be incorporated with the Livable Communities Project. A letter to OMPO stating that ACA supports the study needs to be drafted. Community Concerns Noise and Traffic at Camp Smith. Crosswalk fronting Shell on Moanalua Road is dangerous. Announcements The Aiea Pearl City Vision Meeting is on August 7, 2000 at Waiau District Park. The Pearl City Community Association has a golf tournament on August 7, 2000. There is a $65.00 fee, contact Bonnie if interested. Possible ACA picnic in mid-August, a volunteer coordinator is needed. The Pearl City Ho’olaulea is coming up. A candidate forum by Jane Sugimura is being coordinated before the primary. Meeting ended at 9:20pm. |
