SEPTEMBER 27, 1999 AIEA COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION ALVAH
SCOTT ELEM. 7:15pm PRESENT: Bob
Andersen, Tracy Arakaki, Bonnie Arakawa, Denise Haverty, Leticia Luko, Kimberly Mills,
Robyn Nakamura, Jarrett Oshiro, Claire Tamamoto, Michael Tokioka. Introductions were made. Bob Anderson from the Aiea Neighborhood Board sees
the potential to draw people to the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail.
He would like to bring the Iwo Jima Memorial replication to the Pearl Harbor area.
The statue will be casted from a national organization.
There is one in DC and 4 or 5 more around the country. The community can decide on the inscription to be placed on the memorial. Bob was given Sen. Mizuguchib number and Bob will explore options to see if the
memorial could be erected around the P. H. area. II. Minutes from the previous ACA meting was
approved. III. Treasurerb non-profit organization effective August 23, 1999.
As an organization we are now able to apply and receive grants. (
#99-0073476) IV. Aiea Medical Building-The zoning variance for
the Aiea Medical Building ice storage units were denied.
The Off Peak Energy company has 30 days to appeal. The
company may seek legal action against the city. V. Aiea Sugar Mill- Possibly 4 lots have been sold,
up from 3 lots. The status of the library is the same-on hold due to
financial constraints with the state. Joe
Criz, is inquiring to get the Diamond Head portion of the mill site rezoned as residential.
Bonnie pointed out that it makes no sense to put the library at the Diamond Head portion of
the site because of the space constraints of the lot with no room to expand.
No word yet from Councilperson Hannemann to designate the site as a
Park with a b VI. ABC Grant-No word yet if we will be receiving
the grant. Aiea Intermediate Principal Clarence DeLude has been
contacted and may possibly give the beginnings of a youth center some classroom
space. Board of Education approval still needed. VII. Visioning Team- See Agenda VIII. Aiea Neighborhood Board Meeting- There was no
meeting this month. IX. Membership Drive- Letitia stated that maybe it would not be a good idea to send out ACA material home with the students at
public schools because the school and PTA are also trying to gain support
or their projects and causes. X. General Membership Meeting or October 25, 1999-
meeting was announced at the Aiea vision meeting. XI. Community outreach- Bonnie is working on the newsletter and is patiently waiting for articles.
The PHHT presentation was done at the Aiea/Pearl City Businessmen Luncheon.
A conflict has been bought out concerning ACA.
We have been perceived as being anti-business. Harbor View Center supports Off Peak Energyb encroachment. Harbor
Center District is zoned industrial but mixed use with commercial businesses which is illegal is taking
place there. XII. Web Site Update- Kimberly reported that as long
as there is a server, web page creation should be available through the
server. XIII. New Business- Tracy created a very nice logo
with the sugar mill as the subject Empower Oahu funds are available.
We need to make a checklist and a needs assessment. |
